Our original intent was to buffer the build in a matrix planting containing around five different species of indigenous grass.

Choosing instead to celebrate the richness in the topography of the site itself, we soon settled on a singular species to be used en masse.

This mass allows the rises and falls on the site to be highlighted beneath without distraction. This sea of grasses shakes in the wind and blends into the multiple horizons of the surrounding hills.

Within the house’s intimate central courtyard, we planted a number of established slender tree ferns along with an understory of forest ferns. This area is intended to have an intensity in texture and richness when compared to the mass grass of the surrounds. It may be an area of dissonance onsite but one which connects it to the nearby ranges.
