Caulfield North w/ Davidov

A sweeping renovation of a large established garden, this project was guided by a principle of considered renewal. A journey of balance between preservation and transformation began.

For a young, energetic family, the brief was to reimagine the existing landscape into something more open, generous, and purposeful, while honouring the site’s original character.

Much like Davidov Architects’ architectural intervention, drawing from Carlo Scarpa’s Castelvecchio, so the landscape is both respectful of its history and confidently contemporary.

Existing specimen trees were retained and re-framed, anchoring the garden with mature scale. Strategic removals allowed view lines to open and moments to breathe, shifting the experience of the garden from enclosed to expansive.

Planting moves in layered rhythms, From lush to tonal and quietly romantic. A restrained palette of greens gives way to whites that bloom gently across the seasons, never meant  to be overstated. Beds are softly structured, like a parkland; loose, generous, and alive with texture.

Stone underfoot was treated as memory and counterpoint. The existing Juparana granite, once polished, was softened with a sandblasted finish, its warmth now tactile and subdued. Newly laid travertine extends indoors and out, drawing light across thresholds and settling the garden into its architecture with ease. Together, these elements form a landscape that feels storied and still. Now a place for gathering, wandering, and growing into.
